Swan Lake

We did another short trip to Trenton this weekend. Spring in the country is full of new life. The beavers there were busy trying to repair the damn dam we had dug up because it was causing flooding of our road. (We left most of it intact, of course) There's a swan couple on the pond across the road and a huge nest that one of them was sitting on. (My sister thought she read somewhere that the male sat on the eggs) I got this great photo of the spouse swimming guard around the perimeter and giving our truck the Swanny stink eye.
Our boys were seriously interested in the birds on the pond. Duh, labradors! We didn't dare let them off leash. I didn't fear so much for the safety of the swans but for the labs. I had a dogtraining client in NewYork City who had her JackRussel killed by a swan in Central Park Pond. The enormous bird just pecked it on the head so hard that it drowned. It was clear watching the guard on the perimeter that he had the presence to take on all comers.
Even though it's been below freezing for the past few nights, my father's tulips were starting to bloom.
All in all, it was a lovely commune with nature.
